Nassau County needs your help to continue the tradition of the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged!
Friends of the Games, a non-profit fundraising committee, say they still need $40,000 to host this year’s event that so many athletes look forward to competing in.
County Executive Ed Mangano and the fundraising committee to Save the Games will host a breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, May 20th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at B. K. Sweeney’s in Bethpage. Admission is $40 per person. To further benefit the Games, there will be a Chinese auction, featuring a variety of gift baskets and other prizes.
Nassau County has been the proud host of the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged for 27 years. Last year, after learning that NYS had cut all funding for the Games, Mangano committed to raising the private funds necessary to keep the tradition alive. Through a public-private partnership with many local organizations and donations from the general public, Nassau County was able to host the Games once again.
“The Games are successful because of the dedication of parents, families, teachers, coaches and volunteers,” said Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano. “Operating with a small staff, the Games are facilitated by those who lovingly return year after year.”
The Nassau County Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged will celebrate Opening Ceremonies on Thursday, May 31st at 6:30pm at Mitchel Athletic Complex. Athletes will compete on Friday, June 1st and Saturday, June 2nd at Mitchel Athletic Complex and Nassau Community College.
To support these fine young student athletes who face physical disabilities, please donate today! Come out and cheer them on at Opening Ceremonies, and throughout the weekend of competition.
Donation checks are payable to: “Friends of Nassau County Recreation”
