The Village of East Rockaway and the Bay Park area are a major focus for the Mangano Administration. It is a special community with a long history that plays a large role in Nassau County. It is also unique as it is an incorporated village, has areas that are overseen by the Town of Hempstead and of course County property and infrastructure, namely Bay Park and the Bay Park Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Of course, Sandy did an incredible amount of damage to the community and the plant itself. In the days after the storm, County Executive Mangano implemented a program to help residents deal with sewage debris. Hundreds of homes have been addressed through the program. Before the storm, the Mangano Administration invested more than $70 million into the Bay Park Plant to reverse years of neglect at the facility. Due to these improvements the plant’s performance resulted in the excellence residents deserve. In fact before Sandy the plant had celebrated well more than one year without any violations, something that had not been accomplished in years. The work is not done and major plans are underway to mitigate the plant and ensure history is not repeated.

In addition to the improvements at the plant in the last several years Nassau County has increased its maintenance on all County roads within the Village, increased maintenance in beautiful Bay Park and assisted the Village and Town of Hempstead with waterfront improvements. This Spring, the Department of Public Works will perform catch basin and drainage repair and improvements throughout the Village, including Main St.

We are unaware of any request from the town or Village for funding specific to a project in East Rockaway. However, the County will continue to work with both municipalities to assist the community in any way that is within its jurisdiction. We welcome your input in how Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano can advocate for East Rockaway.

What exactly is the logical connection between advocating for development of the Hub (which has been going on for decades) and reconciling the problems which have been caused by Hurricane Sandy? Somehow, I seemed to have missed the connection. Were there many trees lost around The Hub area? Did the tidal surge affect The Hub area? Did Nassau County lose The Nets because of Hurricane Sandy? Is our grip on The Islanders slipping because of fierce weather patterns? Please fill me in.

Regarding repairs to Nassau Coliseum The people of Nassau County voted against replacing a new Nassau County. So what makes you think the people would be in favor of such repairs? Who is paying for this??????? Many people are not coming back to Nassau County after "Sandy" so how can you even think about this expense at a time like this. It will be a long time before the county gets on its feet, but your spending money without residents consent.Or do we get a vote??? B. Mastriano
