Nassau County’s second annual “Cruise to the Show” parade and car show is Sunday, September 18th – less than two weeks away. And those who want to pre-register for the event must do so by this Thursday, Sept. 8.
This year, a concert and fundraising walk have been added to the event, as part of the weekend-long festivities, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced.
The Cruise to the Show Concert will kick off the festivities on Saturday, September 17th at 7:00 p.m. at Eisenhower Park’s Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre. The concert will feature Beach Boy Al Jardine and the Rip Chords, and is made possible through proceeds collected from visitors staying in hotel and motel rooms throughout Nassau County. The concert is free to the public, but attendees are asked to bring two cans of non-perishable foods to support Island Harvest.
On Sunday, September 18th at 9:00 a.m. the “Cruise to the Show” will begin at Briarcliffe College in Bethpage and continue down Stewart Avenue to Hempstead Turnpike, ending at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. Staging will begin at 8:00 a.m. for the more than 1000 vehicles of all makes, models and years that will follow the parade route.
At the same time as the parade, there will be a Cruise to the Show 5K Charity Walk to benefit Winthrop Hospital’s Cancer Center for Kids, at Eisenhower Park.
And following the parade, the County will host a car show featuring live music by Kayla Starr and Columbus Circle, children’s activities, refreshments, craft and gift vendors, and of course, great-looking classic cars. Numerous trophies will be awarded to winners from different categories.
“As a car enthusiast, I am very excited to once again host this great event,” County Executive Mangano said. “This year, the ‘Cruise to the Show’ has expanded to include a variety of different activities for everyone to enjoy and will also benefit two great local organizations. If you have a car that you want to show off, or if you just want to enjoy classic, fast, and unique cars, I invite you to come and spend a beautiful day at Eisenhower Park.”
Car Show pre-registration is $10. Checks or Money Orders should be made payable to: Friends of Nassau County Recreation and mailed to:
Nassau County Car Show Administration Building Eisenhower Park East Meadow, N.Y. 11554
Registration after September 8th or on the day of event is $25, if space permits.
There is no fee to participate in the cruise, and admission for spectators to the car show in Eisenhower Park is free to Nassau County residents. Non-County residents will be charged $10 per car to enter the park.
“Cruise to the Show” sponsors include WBAB 102.3, Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop Hospital, Centric Parts, Jet Blue, Parts Authority, Cap-a-Radiator, and Westbury Jeep.
