Closely monitoring yesterday’s tragic events at the Boston Marathon, County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced precautions that the Nassau County Police Department plans to make in advance of the Long Island Marathon, which runs from May 3 through May 5, 2013.
Mangano said law enforcement and other County officials will hold a security meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, with subsequent security briefings in the weeks leading up to the Long Island Marathon.
“Nassau police have been in constant contact with both the FBI and the New York City Police Department. Our patrol officersare on high alert,” Mangano said in a statement.
County Executive Mangano also reminded residents how important it is to remember Nassau’s See Something Say Something Campaign.
“If something or someone seems out of place, please call 911,” he said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of those affected by today’s horrific tragedy.”
