West Shore Road Seawall Reconstruction Named “Project of the Year”
Mineola, NY – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that the New York State Professional Engineering society (NYSPE) has honored two county employees for their work during and since Hurricane Sandy. NYSPE also named the West Shore Road seawall reconstruction “Project of the Year.”
County Executive Mangano stated, “During and after Hurricane Sandy reached our shores, hundreds of Nassau County employees worked around the clock to repair our precious infrastructure. I commend those who were recognized and all our employees as these awards recognize their collective efforts.”
Nassau County Department of Public Works Deputy Commissioner Richard Millet has been named NYSPE’s “Citizen of the Year” for his role in coordinating the efforts to restore operations to the Sandy-stricken Bay Park Wastewater Treatment Plant, which was paralyzed by a nine-foot wall of water.
NYSPE also named Donna Boyle as “Engineer of the Year” for her work in leading the reconstruction of the West Shore Road seawall. In addition, West Shore Road was named the organization’s Project of the Year.
Following Hurricane Sandy’s damage, County Executive Mangano issued an emergency order to begin the West Shore Road and seawall reconstruction project. The County Executive mandated the road and seawall reconstruction be a top priority and the project is on schedule to be completed by the July 4th.
