Silent Auction to Include Rare Comic Books, Comic Book Art
and Sports Memorabilia
Mineola, NY – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano invites residents to join him for dinner at Hurricane Grill & Wings on Stewart Avenue in Garden City on Monday, July 29th, from 6pm to close of business. One-hundred percent of proceeds from a special food and drink menu at all Nassau County Hurricane Grill & Wings locations – Syosset, Levittown and Garden City – will be donated to the Nassau Hurricane Recovery Fund (NHRF). A silent auction, consisting of rare comic books, comic book art, and autographed sports memorabilia, will also take place at the Garden city location in an effort to benefit the NHRF.
“I am so grateful to Hurricane Grill and Wings for their generous offer to provide proceeds of their sales to Nassau’s Hurricane Recovery Fund,” said County Executive Mangano. “Thanks to local businesses, the Nassau Hurricane Recovery Fund has been able to provide some form of support to those who have been unable to overcome the financial hurdles associated with the storm and the recovery.”
Thanks to the corporate generosity of Hurricane Grill & Wings’ franchise owners Jim Brown, Robert Engel, Michael Friedman, Dean George and Charlie Giglia, the NHRF benefit will feature a special seven-item menu for the evening that includes such popular items as the Hurricane chicken salad and ‘stormin’ Buffalo chips. Raffles will also be held and prizes given out throughout the night.
The NHRF was created by Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano in November 2012 to collect and organize donations and distribute them to victims of Sandy. Priority is given to those applicants who are not entitled to reimbursement from FEMA, do not have homeowners or flood insurance and are not receiving assistance from other government relief programs. To date, more than 1,200 residents have applied to the Fund for financial assistance. The NHRF has so far provided financial assistance to 65 local families – with $1,000 grants.
