Nassau County hosted its annual Gold Star Families Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in Eisenhower Park on Saturday, Oct 5, 2013.
Organizers of the event – including representatives from the United War Veterans Council, the NYC Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs and Gold Star Mothers – read the names of New York State military men and women killed in action. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts will place flags at reading of the names.
“Throughout our history, brave men and women have willingly answered the call of duty to not only defend our nation and way of life, but to extend the benefits of freedom to other nations and people suffering under tyranny,” Mangano said afterwards. “In this ceremony, those whose ultimate sacrifice are remembered as they allow us to continue to live in freedom. We honor their bravery and are forever in their debt. We salute the courage of their families for shouldering their burden of loss every day.”
