MANGANO BREAKS GROUND FOR CONSTRUCTION OF FIRST PRECINCT IN BALDWIN

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano today broke ground for construction of a new First Precinct facility for the Nassau County Police Department in Baldwin.

In partnership with the local community, Nassau County will construct a new, modern and cutting edge facility on the same property.

County officials said that construction of the new First Precinct will take about 18 months and save taxpayers $21 million over previous plans put forth by the former administration.

“Over the past several months, my administration has worked in close partnership with the Baldwin Civic Association and local neighbors,” County Executive Mangano said. “Together, decisions were made to keep Harrison Avenue open. The street, which runs south of Merrick Road and is at the corner of the site of the new First Precinct, is an important outlet for the community.”

Mangano said the Kellogg House, on the corner of Harrison Avenue and Merrick Road, will also be preserved for future generations to enjoy.

During construction, a house on the grounds will be used by the construction company as offices and overflow parking to keep parking on residential streets to a minimum.

To obtain additional property, Nassau County is also purchasing the Huntington Learning Center, located on the west side of the First Precinct.

The new precinct will be a three-story building and include community access space for more outreach to the surrounding neighborhoods.

“I thank everyone who participated in making this project a reality,” Mangano told those gathered. “Now, let’s break ground.”
