Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano’s administration distributed toys to dozens of children in Hempstead’s Latino community yesterday, in celebration of Three Kings Day.
Partnering with the Hempstead Hispanic Civic Association and Nassau’s Coordinated Agency for Spanish Americans (CASA), County officials distributed more than 50 toys at the event – which were supplied by the United States Marines Toys for Tots program.
The Three Kings Celebration – also known as Epiphany – is generally celebrated on January 6th, and represents the day the Three Wise Men gave gifts to Jesus. The day concludes Christmas festivities and is the day most children in Latin America, Spain and Mexico exchange gifts.
“Christmas might be over, but it doesn’t mean the gift of giving is over,” County Executive Mangano said. “Every child deserves a new toy for the holidays.”
Many of the children at the Three Kings Celebration are enrolled in the after school program at the Hempstead Hispanic Civic Association.
