Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano welcomed observers to an annual service at Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale Sunday to memorialize firefighters who passed away in 2013.
“I would like to thank each and every one of you for the hard work and dedication that you put into protecting Nassau County’s residents, homes and property,” County Executive Mangano told those gathered. We gather tonight to honor our brave firefighters who have passed away. It is so important to remember those who have died and to keep their individual legacies alive. Heroism, valor and sacrifice are just three words to describe their dedication.”
Mangano said that firefighters wake up and respond to emergencies, each and every day, with a single goal: protecting the public, “rarely with concern for their own safety.” He has always made the training and safety of Nassau’s firefighters one of his administration’s top priorities because, as he says, he can “think of no more worthy of a cause then to support our firefighters.”
In closing, Mangano said that on behalf of the 1.3 million residents of Nassau County, “I would like to thank all of the firefighters here tonight for your dedication and sacrifice on behalf of our communities.”
