Mangano Honors Award-Winning Girl Scout Robotics Team

Nine girl scouts from Nassau County, along with their coaches, were recognized by County Executive Ed Mangano today for their award-winning robotics team, which recently competed in the Worlds Championship against 127 of the world’s top teams.

The all-girl robotics team may not have won the World Championship, which took place in St. Louis in April, but they did win an award at each of the six competitions they competed in this year.

County Executive Mangano honored the members of the team – known as Icebreakers 4183 – in the Ceremonial Chambers of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building in Mineola. They are coaches Diane and Steve Kitchener; and:

    • Caeley Looney: Co-captain, Senior, has been on the team for seven years.  Responsibilities include Engineering Notebook Coordinator, Competition On-field Coach, Event Planner, Outreach and oversees rest of team so they are on task with their responsibilities.
    • Brianna Kitchener: Co-captain, Senior, has been on the team for seven years.  Responsibilities include builder, Competition 1st Driver, Outreach Coordinator and Spirit Lead.
    • Danielle Abrahams: Senior, has been on team for five years.  Responsibilities include Social Media Lead, Event Secretary, Competition Team Scouting and Outreach.
    • Samantha Adelberg: Senior, has been on team for four years.  Responsibilities include Robot Co-Builder Lead, Competition Spirit Coordinator, Competition 2nd Driver Back-up and Outreach
    • Sandi Peters: Senior, has been on team for three years.  Responsibilities include Robot Co-Builder Lead, Competition Spirit Coordinator and Outreach.
    • Lauren Conroy: Sophomore, has been on team for two years.  Responsibilities include Robot Builder, Competition 2nd Driver Lead and Outreach.
    • Katharine Conroy: Sophomore, has been on team for two years.  Responsibilities – Co-Programmer Lead, Competition Team Scouting, Competition Cheer, Competition 1st Driver Back-Up and Outreach.
    • Natalie Bloniarz: Sophomore, has been on team for two years.  Responsibilities – Co-Programmer Lead, Competition Spirit and Outreach.
    • Dessie DiMino: Sophomore, has been on team for one year.  Responsibilities include Programmer, Competition Spirit, Competition 1st Driver Back-Up and Outreach.
