Members of Nassau County’s Israeli American communities joined together at Eisenhower Park’s Lakeside Theatre on Sunday, June 8th , to celebrate their heritage with international music and cultural activities sponsored by Canon USA and Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano.
Following games and samplings of traditional Israeli food, citations on behalf of the County Executive were presented to two generations of families who have worked to help improve the Jewish community in Nassau County. Honorees included:
• Stanley and Sheila Hochhauser: Stan is Past President of the Bellmore Jewish Center and Sheila has served on the Board of Trustees and is a sisterhood officer. For 17 years, Stan has started the Celebrate Israel Parade in New York City with the sounding of the Shofar, and when Israel celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Stan and Sheila have three married children and six grandchildren.
• Barry and Nancy Hochhauser: Barry is Stan and Sheila’s son. Nancy and Barry have been active at Congregation B’nay Sholom-Beth David in Rockville Center since 1992. Nancy is current sisterhood president and a current Temple Board Member, and Barry is a past president. Barry was instrumental in negotiating the merger between Temple B’nay Sholom and Congregation Beth David in Lynbrook.
The Long Island Division of Israeli Scouts and the Solomon Schechter School of Long Island performed the Hatikvah and the Star Spangled Banner. Lastly, the Master of Ceremonies—Arthur M. Katz—joined all on stage.
County Executive Ed Mangano reminds Nassau residents of the following upcoming shows at the Lakeside Theatre: Taylor Dayne on Friday, June 13th; Jay Black and the Del Satins on Friday, June 20th; and TD Bank’s “Celebrate America” show and fireworks on Saturday, June 28th.
