County Executive Edward P. Mangano will congratulate the winners of Nassau’s 2nd Annual High School Drug Awareness Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building in Mineola. Winning entries were submitted by students at General Douglass McArthur Senior High School in Levittown and Valley Stream South High School. Students from Baldwin Senior High School, Nassau BOCES and Levittown’s Division Avenue High School each received Honorable Mention for their video submissions. The contest is sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, who will present prizes to the four winning groups of students at the ceremony.
To raise awareness about the dangers of both illegal and prescription drugs, 125 students from 10 different high schools as well as the Nassau BOCES Westbury Center participated in the contest, along with assistance from their advisors. As part of Red Ribbon Week in October, the contest asked students in grades 9 through 12 to create a 30-second PSA on one of four topics, “End the Stigma,” “Love Yourself,” “Promote Nassau’s new 24/7 Mental Health Substance Abuse Helpline,” and the Red Ribbon Pledge.”
