Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano swore in new members of the Nassau County Fire Commission this week, including the new Fire Commission Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary.
Sworn in at the ceremony Wednesday evening at the Carle Place Fire Department, were Commission Chairman James Mezey; Vice Chairman Dennis Collins; and Secretary John Fabian.
Jim Mezey, the new Nassau County Fire Commissioner, is an Ex-Chief of the Carle Place Fire Department where he just received his 50 year membership. Most recently, Jim was elected as Fire Commissioner of the 9th Battalion and served as the Vice Chairman of the Fire Commission. Jim is also retired from the Nassau County Police Department.
County Executive Mangano thanked Mezey for his years of “brave and selfless service” and outgoing Fire Commissioner, Ronald Magarie, for his service, bravery, leadership and “dedication” to “protecting our Nassau County communities.”
Margarie joined the West Hempstead Fire Company in 1975 where he rose up through the ranks as a Firematic officer – 2nd and 1st Lieutenant, Junior Captain, Senior Captain, 2nd Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief and Chief of Department in 1996. Ron was elected as Fire Commissioner of the 7th Battalion and served as the Secretary and Vice Chairman of the Fire Commission.
Mangano also congratulated all incoming officers.
