At Nassau County’s 4th Annual Italian American Heritage Celebration last week, County Executive Ed Mangano recognized the many achievements, contributions and successes of the millions of Italian-Americans who call the United States home.
The ceremony opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, and the singing of both the Italian and American National Anthems, by the DG Quintet.
Receiving honors at the event were the NYS Order Sons of Italy in America; Cooleys Anemia Foundation, LI Chapter; American Assoc. of Teachers of Italian; Italian Americans in Government.
“Italian-Americans have contributed greatly to every aspect of our economy through their hard-work and can-do spirit,” County Executive Mangano said. “Since taking office in 2010, I have had the pleasure of appointing many Italian-Americans to my administration. Every day they help me to run Nassau in an economical and efficient manner.”
“By working together we have been given the opportunity to learn from each other and to share culture, goodwill and food,” he added.
The Italian-American community makes up 23 percent of Nassau’s population, County officials said.
