Also recognized this week, for raising money to help fund research into cures for various cancers and to raise awareness, was Rock Out Cures Inc. Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano recognized the all-volunteer charity, which originated in 2008, with a County citation.
Their concerts, such as the one held at Plattduetsch Park Biergarten in Franklin Square, create an atmosphere where people can hang out outside, listen to some great music and eat – all while helping a great cause.
In its first year, the proceeds raised by Rock Out Cures’ concerts, were donated to the American Cancer Society. In the following years, additional charities were added. All the charities chosen have personal connections to members of the group.
In 8 years, Rock Out Cures has raised over $315,000 for charity and those in the community in need. And it continues to evolve and help others, organizing toy drives, assisting organizations such as NY Says Thank You, and organizing a disaster relief drive in the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy.
