The 121-member Roslyn High School Marching Band became state champions this year by finishing in first-place, out of more than 4,000 high school students, in the 42nd Annual New York State Field Band Conference in Syracuse.
This week, the same 2015 Roslyn Bulldogs were congratulated personally – and honored with certificates – by Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, before a concert at the high school. Mangano also presented citations to the Band Director and Assistant Director.
And, in addition, to “recognize this success,” the County Executive presented the band with a roadway sign, to be posted outside the school, congratulating the Marching Bulldogs for their “well-deserved 1st Place Win.”
Each of the band members were recognized by the County Executive for their “hard-work, dedication and commitment on this amazing achievement.” He also commended the Band director, and assistant director, who he said have “devoted countless hours to assist and support their students.”
The Roslyn Marching Band had previously performed at the Chick Fil-A Bowl, the Orange Bowl, Disney World, and MetLife Stadium. The band is looking forward to a week at Disney World in Orlando, Fla. In February 2016 where they will perform in parades at Epcot and the Magic Kingdom.
This news comes on the heels of the announcement last week that said 2 Nassau high school students won the grand prize in the 2015 Siemens Competition, and two other Nassau high schools were finalists in the prestigious competition in math, science and technology.
