Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano commemorated World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) this year, by lighting the dome of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building BLUE as part of the international “Light It Up Blue” Campaign.
Thousands of iconic landmarks, communities, businesses and homes across the globe unite by shining bright blue lights in honor of the millions of individuals and families around the world affected by autism.
WAAD activities increase world knowledge of autism and impart information about the importance of early diagnosis and early intervention. Additionally, WAAD celebrates the unique talents and skills of persons with autism around the world.
County Executive Mangano was joined at Nassau’s 2016 Autism Awareness Day ceremony, by officials from the advocacy group – Autism Speaks – including Executive Director Virginia Connell; Chapter Board Chair John Beyer; Senior Coordinator for Field Development Eddie Russo and NY State Policy Chair Jim Fahey.
