Nearly 80 Nassau Police Department Crossing Guards were honored by Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano on June 8 – a day he aptly designated as “NCPD Crossing Guard Day.”
Joining County Executive Mangano at the ceremony, which was held at police headquarters, were Acting Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter, County Legislator Rose Walker, President CSEA Local 830 Jerry Laricchiuta, and President NCPD Crossing Guard Unit Kathy Mellides. The Honoree crossing guards were presented with awards and citations.
He thanked the Crossing Guards for all the hard work and dedication that goes into making sure pedestrians throughout the County are traveling safely.
“Residents should all acknowledge the value that our crossing guards bring to safe travel at schools,” County Executive Mangano said. “Many parents allow their children walk to and from school and knowing there is a crossing guard there who cares about their safety and well-being is extremely reassuring for parents and guardians.”
