Mangano Declares September Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Mineola, NY – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Commissioner of Health Dr. Lawrence Eisenstein were joined by Rhonda Samuel, M.A., the Executive Director of the Integrated Medical Foundation, Inc. at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola on Tuesday, September 27th, where the County Executive signed a Proclamation declaring September Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in men after skin cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2016, there will be about 180,890 new cases of prostate cancer in the United States and approximately 26,120 men will die from the disease. Statistics show regular screening can lead to early detection, and screenings have decreased the prostate cancer death rate by nearly 40 % since they began 20 years ago.
