Mineola, NY – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano, in conjunction with the County Department of Human Services, the Office of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Developmental Disabilities Services, the Mental Health Association of Nassau County and Adelphi University, today announced a mental health conference that will explore effective ways to better the system of care for the County’s underserved populations, by helping communities work together. The conference will be held on October 7, 2016, from 9AM-12:30PM at the Ruth S. Harley University Center at Adelphi University in Garden City. Registration opens at 8:30AM.
“I invite all behavioral health professionals, serving those with mental health and chemical dependency concerns, to attend the conference and help rid our communities of illicit substance use,” said County Executive Mangano.
The half-day conference – Building Healthy Communities: New Opportunities for Stronger Alliances – will look at how community coalition building is an effective way to rise above the existing silos of service and to engage communities holistically to create sustainable changes, especially in underserved populations. Topics will include ways to build successful and effective partnerships and coalitions, the barriers to starting a coalition and how to maintain a coalition.
Professionals from the following organizations will serve as presenters and expert panelists: Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University; Long Island Coalition for the Homeless; LGBTQ Network; Long Beach Aware; HUGS; MHA of Nassau County; Molloy College; and Yes Community Center.
