MANGANO: NEW ACCESSIBLE PLAYGROUND AND SPORTS FIELD NOW OPEN IN EISENHOWER PARK

playgrnd playgrnd2East Meadow, NY – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced the completion of a new handicapped-accessible playground and sports field in Eisenhower Park at Field 8, located near the park entrance at Stewart and Merrick Avenues.

County Executive Mangano stated, “My administration is dedicated to breaking down barriers and improving the lives and dignity of children with different-abilities by providing them with the opportunity to experience play, side-by-side, with their able-bodied peers, whether it be on the playground or on the ball field.”

This new playground is the second accessible playground installed in Eisenhower Park.  The first accessible playground, located at Field 4, opened in May 2012 in conjunction with Let All The Children Play (LATCP) – a Long Island based not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives and dignity of all children by developing accessible playgrounds and inclusive recreation programs.

The new accessible ball field, opened in conjunction with the League of YES, has been designed not only for baseball but for multiple sports and uses state of the art turf suitable for walkers, wheelchairs and other adaptive mobility devices and prosthetics.  With the creation of the new field, the League of YES is now able to provide special needs baseball fans in Nassau County and beyond the opportunity to play the game they love.
