Mangano Honors Off Duty Muttontown Police Officer and Neighbor for Thwarting Burglary in Bethpage

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano commended an off-duty police officer, and a neighbor, this week – for apprehending a would-be burglar in Bethpage two days after Christmas.

On December 27th, 2016 shortly after 12:00 p.m. Muttontown Police Officer Kris Kozlowski was off duty at his home in Bethpage, when his wife noted a suspicious person in the neighborhood.  Officer Kozlowski went out to search the area and found the defendant about to smash the neighbor’s window with a cinderblock in order to gain entry to the home.

Officer Kozlowski was able to stop the defendant and hold him, with the assistance of his neighbor Michael Frisone, until NCPD arrived. The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the second precinct.

Upon further investigation, the NCPD determined that this particular defendant was responsible for three additional burglaries and an attempted burglary charge for the location where he was arrested.  He had removed jewelry and foreign currency from some of the other burglary locations.

County Executive Mangano joined the two honorees, as well as the Muttontown Mayor, police chief and police commissioner – for a ceremony honoring the men at the NCPD Academy in Massapequa Park.
