Once again, Nassau turned its focus on to autism, as County Executive Edward P. Mangano, declared April: Autism Awareness Month.
As part of a ceremony to commemorate the declaration, County Executive Mangano presented proclamations to representatives from Autism Speaks.
The Dome has been illuminated in blue since March 30th in celebration of the 9th Annual World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) “Light Up Blue” Campaign.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.
“That’s why Autism Speaks and World Autism Awareness Day are so important,” Mangano said. “They increase global knowledge about autism, and spread awareness about the importance of early diagnosis and early intervention.”
