Mangano: “Staycation” this 4th of July Week and All Summer Long

Mineola, NY – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano encourages residents to enjoy a “Staycation” and take in the many parks, activities, and amenities that Nassau County has to offer this 4th of July week and throughout the summer.

Whether you enjoy the annual TD Bank Celebrate America Fireworks Show and Concert at Eisenhower Park, hike at Garvies Point, partake in old-fashioned fun at the 1862 Independence Day Celebration at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, or enjoy a day at Nickerson Beach, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this 4th of July week,” said County Executive Mangano.

Throughout the summer months, Nassau County provides numerous activities, attractions, and celebrations that will allow residents to experience a vacation atmosphere right in their own backyard. There are plenty of opportunities for everyone, especially children. Enjoy a day exploring Museum Row in Uniondale and experience hands-on activities at the Long Island Children’s Museum or the proud tradition of firefighting in our communities at the Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Educational Center. Cool off at any of the County’s five pools, or head to Nickerson Beach for a day of fun.  End the day by packing some snacks and take the kids to enjoy an outdoor movie, which will be played at various parks throughout the summer including Eisenhower Park, North Woodmere Park and Cedar Creek Park.

Spend the day taking in a round of golf at one of Nassau County’s seven golf courses, enjoy a round of mini golf, or check out the Pitch and Putt at Nickerson Beach, then put together a picnic dinner and bring a blanket to enjoy a night under the stars while enjoying concerts at many of our County Parks such as Eisenhower Park and Grant Park, or take in an old-time movie on the great lawn at Chelsea Mansion.

The fun doesn’t stop there, as special events are held throughout the County all summer long providing fun attractions for residents to attend such as the Mounted Cowboy Shooting Matches at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Nature Walks at Muttontown Preserve, Noontime Concerts at Eisenhower Park and the 8th Annual Car Show and Parade.

The 70 parks, preserves, museums, historic properties and athletic facilities comprising 6,000 acres within the county also afford the opportunity to enjoy the county at your leisure.  Preserves and attractions such as the Gold Coast Mansions, Bailey Arboretum, and Tackapausha Preserve provide unique destinations for a summer hike or day of exploration.

“With so many wonderful things to see and do, I urge all residents to enjoy a relaxing ‘staycation’ this Holiday week and all summer long while experiencing all that Nassau County has to offer,” said Mangano.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) estimates 44.2 million Americans will travel this holiday weekend (what the AAA defines as Friday, June 30th through Tuesday, July 4th) – the highest on record, with 1.25 million more travelers than last year.  According to the AAA, gas prices are at the lowest they’ve been since 2005, meaning 84% of holiday travelers—more than 36 million people–will drive to their July 4th destinations.
