Mangano Invites Nassau & Suffolk Residents to Attend Recovery Health & Wellness Expo

By Eden Laikin

East Meadow, NY – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced the first ever bi-county Recovery Health & Wellness Expo, in partnership with Great Escape Substance Abuse Training and Information Center in Baldwin, on Saturday, August 26th, 2:00-5:00pm at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. The event will be held in Parking Field 8, with guest speakers, musical performances and children’s activities—and an opportunity for residents speak with recovery-related groups and agencies from both Counties.

“We’re all on this Island together—addiction does not stop at the border,” said County Executive Mangano. “I encourage all of Long Island’s residents to attend this important event and learn all they can about this public health crisis in our community and how we can all come together to help.”

All recovery-related groups, agencies and individuals in Nassau or Suffolk are encouraged to bring a table and chairs to the event and share their information and resources. If you want a “space” at the Expo, email  elaikin@nassaucountyny.gov by Aug. 15. If you’d like to attend the event, please sign up at www.nassaucountyny./gov/overdosetraining.

The expo will also be honoring “Community Heroes.” Residents are encouraged to nominate a special person they think deserves to be recognized for devoting their free time to helping fight the battle against the opioid epidemic – someone worthy of being recognized for their selfless efforts. To nominate a “Community Hero,” email elaikin@nassaucountyny.gov.

On display at the expo will be drug awareness posters – submitted by 12-15 year olds for a Nassau County contest. Attendees are invited to judge the ones in each age group they think convey the best anti-drug message. For those interested in participating in the contest, call 516-571-6105.

The expo will be followed by a free Billy Joel Tribute Band concert at Eisenhower Park’s outdoor Lakeside Theatre—Parking Field 6/6A. For more details on the expo, check our event and Facebook Page: Nassau Recovery & Wellness Fair.
